As a class, students will create a mock trial for Mae Tuck after she is convicted of murder of the Man in the Yellow Suit. Every student in the class will have an equal role to play in the trial. Roles include the characters in the novel, lawyers, and witnesses. The teacher will preside as the judge in the trial. Students are encouraged to use costumes and props during the mock trial. Students will present their arguments for both sides (prosecutor and defence) in front of the judge and a jury of peers (another grade 5 class).
Roles will be fairly chosen by randomly picking names out of a hat. All students will prepare both sides of the case before the trial. There will be two groups and two separate trials for Mae Tuck. The jury will vote and the judge will present the verdict. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend and watch the trials. |
